How the estimate works
For lawn and pet turf, our math adds Angi’s 2026 per-square-foot ranges and multiplies the sum by your area. Angi’s 2026 ranges per square foot are $2 to $8 for turf, $4 to $9 for labor, $1.20 to $2.25 for base rock, and $0.40 to $0.80 for weed barrier. Infill is sand or granules brushed between turf blades, figured at about 1 pound per square foot using Angi’s 2026 per-pound figures of $0.30 for silica sand, $1.00 for acrylic-coated sand, $1.15 for zeolite, and $1.75 for crumb rubber. You pick the infill, with silica sand selected by default and zeolite selected for pet turf.
Old lawn removal is selected by default at Angi’s 2026 range of $1 to $2.75 per square foot, so untick it if there’s no lawn. Curved edges add Angi’s 2026 labor figure of $1 to $3 per square foot when ticked. A slope adds LawnStarter’s 2026 figure of 50% to 60% to the running total. For lawns and pet turf only, a comparison shows HomeGuide’s 2025 all-in range of $10 to $25 per square foot for the same area.
For putting greens, your area is multiplied by HomeAdvisor’s 2026 size-tier range. HomeAdvisor’s 2026 tiers are $25 to $40 per square foot under 400 square feet, $20 to $30 per square foot from 400 to 2,000 square feet, and $15 to $25 per square foot over 2,000 square feet. Installation is included, so greens show no component lines or HomeGuide comparison.
What the estimate leaves out
The estimate leaves out digging priced by the cubic yard, a drainage system, edging along borders, and seams. Angi’s 2026 figures put excavation at $50 to $200 per cubic yard and a drainage system at $2,100 to $7,000.
The calculator can’t see your yard’s access, and HomeAdvisor’s 2026 figures say severely limited access can double labor costs. These ranges are national. The number is an estimate from published ranges, not a quote, and we price a job after we measure it.

FAQ
Calculator questions
How accurate is a turf cost calculator?
A turf cost calculator is only as accurate as the national published ranges it uses. It can’t see the ground prep, access, or turf choice that affects the cost of your yard. For lawns and pet turf, its result appears beside HomeGuide’s 2025 all-in range of $10 to $25 per square foot for comparison.
How do I measure my yard?
Measure only the part of your yard that will get turf. Multiply its length by its width in feet to get square feet. If the area is L-shaped or irregular, split it into rectangles, measure each one, and add their square footage together.
Why is a putting green priced differently?
HomeAdvisor’s 2026 putting green prices vary by size, with greens under 400 square feet at $25 to $40 per square foot and greens over 2,000 square feet at $15 to $25 per square foot. The calculator multiplies your area by the matching HomeAdvisor 2026 tier, which already includes installation. Putting turf is a different product, and one manufacturer’s spec sheets list a 0.5-inch pile (how tall the blades stand) and 34 ounces of face weight (ounces of fiber per square yard) for putting turf, compared with 1 inch and 50 ounces for its lawn turf.
